American Idol Season 18 Winner Crowned in First At-Home Finale

A historic win during unprecedented times

WEB American Idol broadcast its first-ever remote finale on Sunday night and crowned Just Sam as the winner of the 2020 season. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the top five contestants performed from their respective homes while judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie provided commentary and feedback remotely as well.

A challenging but memorable season

The season was undoubtedly unique, with auditions and early rounds being filmed before the pandemic hit. The live shows, however, had to be adapted in order to comply with social distancing guidelines. Despite the challenges, the season still produced strong performances and heartwarming stories.

Just Sam's victory is a testament to her talent and determination. The 22-year-old singer-songwriter from Harlem, New York, consistently wowed the judges with her powerful vocals and emotional performances.
