Kevin Porter Jr. Pleads Guilty in Assault Case

Former Houston Rockets Guard Reaches Deal with Prosecutors

New York, January 23, 2024 (AP)

Former Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge in a Manhattan court.

According to prosecutors, the incident occurred in November 2023 outside a nightclub in the Greenwich Village neighborhood. Porter was arrested and charged with assault in the third degree.

As part of the plea deal, Porter was sentenced to six months of probation and ordered to complete anger management classes. He will also be required to stay away from the victim and the location where the incident occurred.

Porter, who was a first-round draft pick by the Rockets in 2019, was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in February 2023. He is currently averaging 15.5 points and 5.5 assists per game for the Thunder.

Porter's attorney, Andrew Lederman, said that his client is "taking this matter very seriously" and is committed to learning from his mistake.

In a statement released after the plea deal was reached, Porter apologized to the victim and said he takes full responsibility for his actions.

"I deeply regret my behavior and am committed to making amends," Porter said. "I am working hard to improve myself and become a better person."
