Mary Magdalene: A Disciple and Witness to the Resurrection

A Woman of Faith and Devotion

Mary Magdalene, often referred to as the Magdalene or the Madeleine, played a significant role in the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. According to the New Testament, she was a devoted follower who witnessed Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection firsthand.

From the Gospels

Mary Magdalene's name appears in all four Gospels of the New Testament. She is described as a woman who had been possessed by seven demons (Luke 8:2) and was later healed by Jesus. She witnessed Jesus' death and burial (Mark 15:40-47), and on Easter morning, she was the first person to encounter the resurrected Jesus (John 20:1-18).

A Leading Disciple

Mary Magdalene's prominence in the Gospels suggests that she was a respected and influential figure among Jesus' disciples. She was present at key events in Jesus' ministry, including the Last Supper (Matthew 26:20), and was believed to have been a constant companion of Jesus and his followers (Luke 8:1-3).

Feast Day and Legacy

Mary Magdalene's feast day is celebrated on July 22nd in the Catholic Church. Her legacy as a devout disciple and witness to Jesus' resurrection continues to inspire Christians today.
