Former Nba Stars Number 41 To Be Retired By German Basketball Federation

Dallas Mavericks to Honor Dirk Nowitzki with Jersey Retirement at FIBA EuroBasket

Former NBA star's number 41 to be retired by German Basketball Federation

Nowitzki retired from the NBA in 2019 after 21 seasons, all with the Mavericks

The Mavericks are honoring Nowitzki nearly three years after he announced his retirement on the court at the American Airlines Center after the final home game of the 2018-19 season. Nowitzki had his number 41 jersey retired by the Mavericks earlier this year and will have the same honor presented to him at FIBA EuroBasket 2022 when the German Basketball Federation retires his number.

Nowitzki is one of the most decorated players in NBA history, having been named an All-Star 14 times, the NBA MVP in 2007, and the NBA Finals MVP in 2011. He also led the Mavericks to their first and only NBA championship in 2011.

Nowitzki's retirement from the NBA was a major loss for the Mavericks, but the team has continued to honor his legacy. The Mavericks have a statue of Nowitzki outside of the American Airlines Center, and they have also retired his number 41 jersey.

The FIBA EuroBasket tournament will be held in Germany from September 1 to 18. Nowitzki's jersey retirement ceremony will take place on September 7 before Germany's game against Lithuania.
