Rolf-Ernst Breuer, the former CEO and Chairman of Deutsche Bank, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. He was 86.
Breuer was one of the most influential figures in Deutsche Bank’s history. He joined the bank in 1965 and served as CEO from 1997 to 2002. During his tenure, he oversaw the bank’s expansion into new markets and its acquisition of several other banks.
Breuer was also a key figure in the German business community. He served on the boards of several companies, including DaimlerChrysler and Allianz. He was also a member of the supervisory board of the European Central Bank.
Breuer’s death was met with sadness by the German business community. Deutsche Bank CEO Christian Sewing said in a statement that Breuer was "a great banker and a great leader."
Breuer is survived by his wife, Gertrud, and three children.
